LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. – JULY 28 – Maricopa County Library District (MCLD), in partnership with the City of Litchfield Park, is proud to announce the opening of the new Litchfield Park Library, a modern 10,000-square-foot library that expands access to resources, technology, and community gathering spaces while serving as one of the cornerstone tenants of the City's transformational La Loma Homestead redevelopment.
Members of the media and key stakeholders are invited to celebrate this milestone during a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Monday, August 3, at 8 a.m. at the new library, located at 5390 N. Litchfield Road in Litchfield Park. The library will open to the public on the same day at 10 a.m.
"The new Litchfield Park Library is an investment in education, opportunity, and the quality of life for families across the West Valley," said Debbie Lesko, Vice Chair of the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors, District 4. "This beautiful new library will provide a place where residents of every age can learn, connect, and thrive for years to come."
The new library is nearly 40 percent larger than the current facility and introduces new amenities designed to better serve community members of all ages, including additional seating, two reservable study rooms, a dedicated teen space, a larger room for library events, upgraded technology, and a state-of-the-art automated book sorting system that will help return materials to library shelves more quickly.
As part of the City's vision to restore and reactivate the historic 21-acre La Loma Homestead, the library is a key component to the vision of creating a dynamic hub that celebrates arts, education, culture, and heritage. The La Loma Homestead campus will also include the Hilltop School for the Arts and Hilltop Theater, the redesigned P.W. Litchfield Heritage Center, and Sun Health's expanded Rancho La Loma development, creating a destination dedicated to honoring the past and investing in the future.
“This library represents the beginning of a new chapter in Litchfield Park’s story, and a significant investment in our community. We are proud to partner with the Maricopa County Library District to honor the vision and legacy of our City’s Founder, Paul. W. Litchfield, while reimagining La Loma Homestead into a cultural destination for the region,” said Thomas Schoaf, City of Litchfield Park Mayor.
The new library also pays tribute to the area's rich heritage through thoughtful public art and commemorative features, including a youth-painted mural highlighting the region's historic citrus groves, the hilltop's iconic peacocks, as well as a memorial plaque honoring the late Max Wilson, whose leadership helped shape the West Valley.
The City of Litchfield Park has owned and maintained the community's library since 1989, while library operations and staffing are provided by MCLD. The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors, District 4, allocated $5 million in Community Solutions Funding to help cover a portion of the construction costs, secured by former Supervisor Clint Hickman. Throughout the planning and construction process, the City and the Library District have worked closely together to ensure the new facility supports exceptional library services for today's community and future generations.
"The Litchfield Park community has long embraced its library, and this new facility gives us the space and technology to build on that strong foundation," said Jeremy Reeder, Director of the Maricopa County Library District. "From expanded collections and larger programming spaces to dedicated areas for teens and quiet study, this library was thoughtfully designed to meet the evolving needs of our customers while creating new opportunities for learning, creativity, and community connection."
The additional space will allow MCLD to continue expanding its popular free programs and services. During Fiscal Year 2026, Litchfield Park Library welcomed more than 55,000 visitors, circulated more than 101,000 physical materials, and hosted 304 programs, with more than 6,500 library cardholders.
Community borrowing favorites include Culture Passes, wi-fi hotspots, magazines, mystery novels, graphic novels and manga, as well as titles by James Patterson, Danielle Steel, Stephen King, Kristin Hannah, and Erik Larson.
The current Litchfield Park Library is closed through August 2 while staff move collections and equipment into the new building. During that time, MCLD is encouraging community members to visit nearby county branches, including Georgia T. Lord Library in Goodyear and White Tank Library in Waddell. The City will continue to maintain the former library building and is seeking community input for future use.
The new Litchfield Park Library will officially open to the public on Monday, Aug. 3, at 10 a.m., following the ribbon-cutting celebration. Operating hours for the new library will remain the same as the current branch: Monday–Wednesday, 10 a.m.–7 p.m.; Thursday–Saturday, 10 a.m.–5 p.m.; and Sunday, closed.
